The perfect Bali 3-day itinerary
Only three days? You can still see a lot of the real Bali if you plan smart and keep the drives short. Here's the route I'd recommend to make the most of a quick trip.
With three days, I'd skip the far corners and focus on Ubud and the highlands plus a little beach time. Base yourself in Ubud for two nights, then the south for one.
Day 1 — Ubud & the rice terraces
Start in Ubud: the palace, a craft village, and the Tegallalang rice terraces with a jungle swing. Add a waterfall swim if it's hot. See my full Ubud in a day guide for the order I'd do it in.
Day 2 — Volcano sunrise & temples
Set the alarm for the Mount Batur sunrise tour, then visit hot springs and a highland temple on the way down. It's a big day, so keep the evening easy.
Day 3 — South Bali & beaches
Move down to the south. Spend the morning at a beach club or surf beach, see the cliffside Uluwatu temple at sunset, and enjoy a seafood dinner before you fly out.
Make it work in 3 days
- Two bases beat three — fewer hotel changes means more sightseeing.
- Start early each day to beat the heat and the tour buses.
- Use one driver for the whole trip so you're not arranging transport each morning — a full-day tour per day works perfectly.
