Best sunrise spots in Bali

Bali rewards early risers. Here are my favourite places to watch the sun come up — from a famous volcano to a quiet beach you can reach without a hike — and roughly when you'd need to leave.

Sunrise is around 6am most of the year. How early you leave depends on where you're staying and how far the spot is — I've added a rough guide for each.

1. Mount Batur

The classic. Watch the sky turn gold over the caldera and lake, either from a guided hike or an easier jeep/viewpoint option. From the south, expect a 2:00–3:00am start. It's the headline act of my Mount Batur sunrise tour.

2. Lempuyang & the east

The "Gates of Heaven" at Lempuyang and the nearby water palaces look magical in soft early light, before the queues build. A 3:30–4:30am start from the south.

3. Sanur beach

The easiest sunrise on this list — Sanur faces east, so you can stroll the beachfront path and watch the sun lift over the sea with a coffee. Perfect if you don't want an epic drive. Just be there by about 5:30am.

4. Campuhan Ridge, Ubud

A gentle walk along a green ridge right by Ubud town. Lovely misty light and no entrance fee — great for a relaxed morning before a day in Ubud.

5. Lahangan Sweet / Kintamani viewpoints

Highland viewpoints looking toward Mount Agung give you that sea-of-clouds feel with far less effort than a hike. Best combined with a highland temple afterward.

Sunrise without the stress: I'll handle the early pickup and the driving so you just enjoy the view. Message me on WhatsApp to plan it.
