Ubud in a day
Ubud is Bali's cultural heart — rice terraces, temples, art and jungle, all close together. Here's how I'd spend one full day there, in an order that dodges the worst of the crowds and the heat.
You can happily fill several days in Ubud, but if you only have one, this custom Ubud day tour route hits the highlights without feeling rushed.
Morning — terraces & coffee
Start early at the Tegallalang rice terraces while the light is soft and the swings are quiet. Stop at a coffee plantation to taste local brews (yes, including the famous luwak coffee) on the way.
Midday — town & culture
Head into Ubud town for the royal palace and the market, then wander an art village like Mas (woodcarving) or Celuk (silver). If you like a gentle walk, the Campuhan Ridge is right here and makes a lovely break.
Afternoon — monkeys & a waterfall
Visit the Sacred Monkey Forest (keep sunglasses and snacks hidden!), then cool down at a nearby waterfall such as Tegenungan or Kanto Lampo before the drive back.
Tips for Ubud
- Go early — the terraces and monkey forest get busy and hot by late morning.
- Dress respectfully for temples; a sarong is usually provided or rentable.
- Parking and traffic in central Ubud are tricky — having a private driver drop and collect you saves a lot of hassle.
Want to combine Ubud with the highlands or a sunrise? It slots neatly into a full-day Bali tour or the start of a 3-day itinerary.
